PERUBAHAN BANDAR KLANG SELEPAS MERDEKA (1957-KINI)


Assalamualaikum semua. Wow dah dekat hampir sebulan Atok tak menulis. Memang Atok rindukan korang. Atok teruja benar bila korang singgah jenguk-jenguk kat laman Atok ini. Atok dah anggap korang anak dan cucu-cucu Atok. Bila korang singgah, Atok rasa macam anak cucu Atok singgah balik kampung menjenguk Atok dan Wan, bertanya khabar, bermalam dan makan minum kat rumah Atok. Takpe, korang tak payah keluar duit satu sen pun untuk beli makanan. Duit pencen Atok alhamdulillah cukup untuk jamu makan satu kampung sekalipun, selama dua tiga hari. Takpe, yang penting korang kerap-keraplah balik kampung. Atok rindukan gelak ketawa anak dan cucu Atok sesekali mereka berkumpul di sini, kerana selepas mereka pulang, Atok dan Wan korang duduk termenung di tepi tangga menghadap jalan raya, memerhatikan kereta dan kenderaan ke hulu ke hilir, untuk membuang jauh rasa kesepian kami.

So, untuk entri kali ini, elok Atok sudahkan hal yang telah Atok mulakan. Dua entri Atok yang lepas, kita berbincang pasal peta Klang. Daripada Klang yang hanya ada Melayu Kampung, Cina Lombong dan India Estet, beralih kepada Klang yang ramai Melayu Kampong ditambah Melayu Perantau, Cina Komunis, Cina Industralis serta India Estet dan India Pelabuhan. Komposisi kaum di Klang sudah banyak berubah. Kini, dalam tahun 2020, Klang bukan lagi milik Cina, Melayu dan India sahaja. Di Klang sudah ada Little Nepal, Little Dhaka dengan kebanjiran warga asing yang bekerja di kilang-kilang sekitar Klang, Shah Alam, Pelabuhan Klang dan Kuala Langat. Tak payah pergi jauh atau cari statistik, pergi sahaja ke Klang pada hari Sabtu dan Minggu, Siapa yang penuhkan bas awam? Siapa yang penuhkan shopping center, panggung wayang serta pasar malam? Sudah pastilah bapak Rudi, Ning Sutinah dan Bhai Mujibur...HAHAHA. Klang kini milik pendatang asing! Yang banyak menyumbang untuk statistik COVID 19, merekalah! Memang mereka agak kurang menjaga kebersihan diri dan persekitaran tetapi jasa mereka kepada pembangunan ekonomi negeri dan Malaysia tak boleh dinafikan.

OKlah. Atok nak korang teliti peta-peta di bawah ini. Atok selongkar internet dan terjumpa dua peta untuk korang buat perbandingan. Atok nak korang teliti baik-baik ciri geografi di Klang dan sekitarnya pada tahun 1966, tarikh peta itu dicetak dan dikeluarkan. Pasti banyak yang berubah berbanding peta tahun 1933,1945,1951 yang Atok sertakan dalam entri sebelum ini. Ini peta Klang selepas Merdeka. Zaman pembangunan Klang meroket naik! Banyak kawasan estet dah bertukar jadi taman-taman perumahan. Zaman kampung-kampung Melayu sudah berubah wajah. Rumah atap nipah kini bertukar atap zing. Rumah papan menjadi rumah separuh batu dan banglo mewah. Tak kurang juga kawasan setinggan untuk mereka yang tak mampu menyewa dan bersaing dalam kehidupan bandar ini. Kebun kelapa dan jadi kawasan perkilangan. Kalau dahulu banyak orang kampung tanam kelapa, kini mereka tanam getah, kopi dan nenas. Sepanjang jalan-jalan utama, rumah kedai menumbuh, bak cendawan selepas hujan. Hutan kat Telok dah mula diteroka menjadi kampung baharu. Estet masih wujud tapi semakin mengecil.

Kalau boleh Atok nak korang catatkan dalam buku nota atau kertas atau note dalam henfon korang perubahan yang boleh korang kenal pasti. Lepas itu, ceritakan apa yang korang dapat dan tulis itu dalam ruangan komen di bawah. Kita kongsi,OK? Benda boleh kongsi kenapa nak kemut sorang-sorang!HAHAHA. OK,jom kita mulakan.....

Punyalah banyak perubahan di Klang! Itu baru bandingan Klang sebelum dan pasca Merdeka. Pendek kata Klanglah tempat muda mudi, tua muda bekerja, berkahwin,berkeluarga, beranak pinak dan juga persemadian terakhir sebahagian besar saudara mara, rakan taulan Atok dan datuk nenek korang hidup dan mati di muka bumi Allah ini. Siapa yang tak tahu,dan tak kenal EL DINO,  Emporium Makan, LIDO, CATHAY, REX, GREAT WALL, SAMY ROAD (Kih,kih,kih), GOODMAN BROTHERS, ELLA memang bukan anak Klang jati! Klang 60,70 dan 80-an memang milik Atok. Atok suka, Atok suka! Masuk ke tahun 1990-an bawa ke tahun 2020,Klang memang kebencian Atok. Dengan Trafik jam dan jalan yang berserabut, Atok memang tak suka  lagi ke Klang. Sesak dan menyesakkan. Atok lebih suka lagi ke Banting. Banting baru nak naik. Banting ibarat anak gadis sunti Jawa Jenjarom, sedang mekar dan bugar. Klang pulak, hmm, malas Atok nak cakap, kalau Atok cakap karang korang kata macam-macam kat Atok. Korang nak Atok cakap juga? Tak menyesal?OKlah, Kalau Banting dalam tahun 1990-an ibarat anak dara, Klang pulak bak, Mak Dara berkedut yang dah kesep sampai ke perut...KAH,KAH,KAH!
Kalau korang bandingkan Klang tahun 1960-an ini berbanding peta Klang masa kini tahun 2020, memang ada yang terperanjat beruk. Walaupun buminya masih sama, tapi dah macam buat facelift dah! Mana ada lagi estet-estet?Nama-nama estet dah jadi lain,kalau dahulu nama Mat Salleh,kini dah dimelayukan. Kampung dah bertukar jadi taman, mukim dah bertukar jadi seksyen dan kawasan. SIMPANG LIMA dah jadi SIMPANG TUJUH.

Kalau dahulu Cina majoriti di Klang, kini Klang Bandar Melayu seperti Shah Alam. Semakin banyak jalan dan highway dibuat, Klang semakin berserabut. Itulah salah satu sebab Atok pindah ke Seremban ini yang lebih tenang dan mendamaikan...

So korang explorelah peta Klang tahun 2020 ini dan buatlah perbandingan Klang dahulu, kini dan selamanya. Atok rasa cukuplah sampai kat sini sahaja celoteh Atok. Pinggang Atok bagi nak patah dah, duduk tegak menaip lama.  Atok nak mintak Wan korang sapukan minyak angin sikit sebelum Atok  test drive,sapu minyak belacak yang baru Atok beli kat pasar pagi tadi.  Local landmarks and attractions

Istana Alam Shah

The royal residence of the Sultan of Selangor was built in 1950 in south Klang to replace the old Mahkota Puri Palace. Parts of the Palace are accessible to the public but only on a few days of the week.

Near the Palace is the Klang Royal City Park (Taman Bandar Diraja Klang), and located in front of the Palace is a sports stadium (Stadium Padang Sultan Sulaiman) and the Royal Klang Club.

Sultan Sulaiman Royal Mosque

The royal Mosque was built in 1932.

Kuan Im Teng Klang (巴生观音亭, Goddess of Mercy Temple)

Kuan Im Teng (as pronounced in the Hokkien dialect) was established in 1892 and is over 100 years old. This Goddess of Mercy Temple is located at the Jalan Barat Daya, near Simpang Lima. Bustling with devotees during the first day and the fifteenth day of lunar calendar. It is one of the oldest temple in Malaya since colonial period, built by the Hokkien community.

The temple is also involved in charity work, contributing to several health and educational organisations. On the eve of Chinese New Year, the temple is opened all night and the street is often packed with devotees queuing shoulder to shoulder to enter the temple hall to offer their incense to the Kwan Yin in hope for an auspicious start to the New Year.

Church of Our Lady of Lourdes

A Catholic church built in 1928, the church celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2008 after the church building had undergone restoration. Father Souhait played a large part in the design of the church building, modelling it on the pilgrimage church in Lourdes, France. The design of the church follows the style of a Gothic architecture.

Kota Raja Mahadi

This historic fort was actually an arch of the fort. In the old days, there was a struggle between Raja Mahadi and Raja Abdullah for the control of the Klang district.

Tugu Keris (Keris Monument)

A memorial erected to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the Sultan of Selangor's installation in 1985. The monument is specially designed to depict the Keris Semenanjung that symbolises power, strength and unity.

Kai Hong Hoo Temple (开封府)

The only temple in Malaysia dedicated to the worship of Justice Bao (包公), who was a government officer in ancient China's Song Dynasty. Justice Bao consistently demonstrated extreme honesty and uprightness and is today respected as the cultural symbol of justice in the Chinese community worldwide.

Tanjung Harapan (The Esplanade)

Fronting the Straits of Malacca, the Esplanade is a sea-side family recreation spot near to North port that houses several seafood restaurants. Nice setup for sunset-gazing and also for anglers to fish.

Little India (Klang)

Colourful street from the striking saris hanging from shops to the snacks and sweetmeats on sale from shops and roadside stalls. During Deepavali, the Indian festival of lights, the street is astoundingly transformed into a colourful spectacle of lights and booming sound of music.

Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple

Built in 1896, it is one of the oldest and the largest of the Vaishnavite temples in Malaysia. The temple is often referred to as the "Thirupathi of South East Asia" after its namesake in India.

Sri Subramania Swamy Temple, Klang

A Hindu temple devoted to the worship of Lord Murugan in Teluk Pulai,Klang that was established on 14 February 1914. It holds a unique distinction among the Hindu temples in Klang as it was founded and managed by the Ceylonese/Sri Lankan community who lived around the vicinity of the temple. Prayer rituals are done like those in Sri Lanka and certain festivals specific to the Ceylonese/Jaffnese community are celebrated here. The arasamaram or sacred fig tree which is in the temple was there since 1914 and is possibly one of the oldest living tree in Klang.

Connaught Bridge

Is one of the oldest bridge in Malaysia's Klang Valley region. It was built in 1948 by the British. The bridge is located in Jalan Dato' Mohd Sidin (Federal route ) near Connaught Bridge Power Station in Klang Selangor.

At one time, Connaught bridge can only be crossed one vehicle at a time. No lorry could pass it because it was limited to car, van and small vehicle only. While on the bridge, you will heard the sound of wood 'cracking'! The wooden bridge closed in 1993–1994. In 1995 the wooden bridge was replaced by a concrete box girder bridge.

Kota Bridge

Is the first and only double-decker bridge in Malaysia and South East Asia. The bottom deck is a pedestrian walkway bridge while the top deck is a motorist bridge. The bridge was closed to car traffic in the '90s due to high demand that necessitated the construction of a new bridge.

The new Jambatan Kota is located beside of the old bridge. The old bridge was constructed between 1957 and 1960, and was officially opened in 1961 by the late Sultan of Selangor, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah as part of the celebration of his coronation as the ninth Sultan of Selangor.

Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery

Is the royal gallery located at Bangunan Sultan Suleiman, Klang. Various collections depicting the reign of Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah; from his early childhood through his appointment as the eighth Sultan Selangor in 1960 and as the eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 1999.

Klang Selatan Fire Station

Is a Victorian-style structure that was built in 1890s. Today, the building still serves as a fire station. Local firemen have taken the initiative to set up a mini gallery at the fire station in support of the Klang Heritage Walk.

  1. Setiap saya traveling ke Malaysia, selalu saya berkunjung ke Klang. Sempat melaksanakan sholat di Royal Sulaiman Mosque, ke Istana Alam Shah walau hanya di depan pintu gerbang saja. Singgah belanja ke little India. Juga ke Klang Central saat akan melanjutkan traveling ke Melaka. Sempat menikmati lontong dengan kari sotong di Klang, sangat sedap. Menikmati nasi kandar di dekat kawasan Taman Sri Andalas dan juga sempat melaksanakan shalat Jumat di Mesjid Kg. Raja Uda. Semoga nanti bisa menikmati teh di kedai kopi di Telok Panglima Garang.
