Salam buat semua. Hari ini Selasa 9 September 2025. Baru dua hari Atok dan Wan balik semula ke rumah kat Seremban. Genap sebulan Atok dan Wan di Cyberjaya, menjaga anak perempuan dan dua orang cucu. Wan menjadi CL, Confinement Lady manakala Atok jadi nanny. Mana ada orang jantan jadi nanny, pengasuh? Atok seorang jer..Dua orang cucu yang tinggal dengan Atok di Seremban dah mula bertanya, Atok bila nak balik? Kitorang rindulah. Serba salah kami berdua. Itulah pasal kami terus balik ke Seremban walaupun tempoh pantang 44 hari tak cukup lagi. Apa-apapun, Atok dan Wan bangga dan bersyukur dapat menjalankan amanah sebaik mungkin. Ingat, harta benda sebenar kita, bukanlah wang ringgit, kereta, rumah bagai.Kesemua itu pakaian sementara ketika di dunia. Harta benda kita yang boleh dibawa ke syurga adalah segala amalan, ibadah, sumbangan, pahala, jariah serta anak dan keturunan soleh dan solehah. Jadi didiklah mereka agar mereka terus mendoakan kita selepas pemergian kita. Tiada yang kekal di dunia melainkan Allah SWT.
Entri Atok kali ini masih mengenai kesihatan dan Perubatan. Kali ini kita ke Daerah Kuala Pilah pula. Kuala Pilah memang menarik. Selain budaya dan tempat rekreasinya, ada empat hal yang menjadikan Kuala Pilah unik dan menjadi destinasi kunjungan orang luar. Itik Salai di Ulu Bendul, Kedai Emas di pekan Kuala Pilah, Air Janda Pulang di Melang, dan Apam Johol. Tempat lain memang tak ada punya. Specialties orang Kolo Pilah jer. Tapi kita bukan nak merasa kesemua itu. Atok nak bawa korang balik ke zaman rimau dan gajah bertidur baring atas jalan raya di sana. Betapa susah dan sukarnya mendapatkan rawatan perubatan masa itu. Hanya dengan cara ini barulah kita menghargai taraf kesihatan dan kemudahan perubatan yang ita ada kini. Seperti biasa, komen sikit ya lepas membaca. Hospital Kuala Pilah
Hospital Kuala Pilah, kini dikenali sebagai Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah, mula beroperasi pada tahun 1885 apabila pihak British membangunkan kemudahan kesihatan asas untuk menyokong kegiatan pentadbiran daerah, perlombongan kecil dan ladang-ladang getah yang berkembang pesat di kawasan pedalaman Negeri Sembilan.

Hospital Kuala Pilah berfungsi sebagai pusat kesihatan daerah bagi kawasan pedalaman yang mempunyai ramai penduduk Melayu. Tidak seperti Jelebu yang tertumpu pada lombong, hospital ini memberi tumpuan kepada rawatan komuniti kampung, petani, dan pentadbiran daerah, dengan penyakit lazim termasuk malaria, cacar, beri-beri, dan disentri. Dari segi pentadbiran, Kuala Pilah merupakan salah satu pusat pentadbiran penting di Negeri Sembilan dan hospitalnya sering dikunjungi Residen serta pegawai kolonial, melambangkan usaha British memperkukuh kawalan sosial sambil menonjolkan imej “kemajuan” kolonial.
Secara keseluruhan, Hospital Kuala Pilah pada 1901 adalah hospital kecil tetapi sangat sibuk, merawat lebih 800 pesakit setahun dengan kadar pemulihan yang baik. Ia memainkan peranan penting sebagai pusat kesihatan daerah dan menjadi bukti awal perkembangan sistem perubatan di pedalaman Negeri Sembilan. Sekitar 1901–1902, Hospital Kuala Pilah menerima peruntukan khusus sebanyak $27,500 untuk penyediaan bekalan air bersih dan pembesaran hospital. Peruntukan ini menandakan usaha kerajaan kolonial untuk meningkatkan kemudahan hospital daerah bagi menampung pertambahan pesakit, termasuk pekerja estet dan lombong. Tambahan kemudahan serupa juga dilaksanakan di Port Dickson dan Tampin, sebagai sebahagian daripada pengembangan infrastruktur perubatan di seluruh negeri.
Walaupun begitu, peruntukan ini memperlihatkan ketidakseimbangan kelas dan kaum dalam sistem kesihatan kolonial. Hospital Seremban menerima $8,000 untuk membina wad khas bagi orang Eropah, manakala penduduk tempatan dan pekerja Tamil hanya menerima penambahan kecil kepada hospital sedia ada, serta fokus utama ialah pengawalan penyakit seperti malaria dan peningkatan sanitasi. Di Kuala Pilah, ini bermakna hospital daerah menyediakan rawatan asas dan kemudahan asas sahaja, sementara kemudahan mewah khas untuk Eropah tertumpu di hospital pusat seperti Seremban.
Kerja anti-malaria turut diberikan peruntukan berasingan sebanyak $15,000, menekankan bahawa penyakit tropika merupakan isu kesihatan awam paling serius di Negeri Sembilan, khususnya di kawasan lombong, estet, dan paya.
Pasti ramai yang keliru tentang status Hospital Kuala Pilah. Apakah maksud dispensari dan bagaimana pula ia dirujuk sebagai hospital dalam banyak penulisan akademik? Sebenarnya, sebelum 1900, Hospital Kuala Pilah berfungsi sebagai dispensari kecil, menyediakan rawatan asas untuk penduduk kampung dan pedalaman, dengan fokus utama pada penyakit lazim seperti malaria, beri-beri, disentri, dan cacar. Menjelang 1900–1901, hospital ini mempunyai kapasiti 22 katil dan menerima 780 pesakit setahun, dengan 802 kes dirawat, 718 pesakit discaj hidup, dan 17 kematian (kadar 2.1%). Hospital beroperasi melebihi kapasiti dan bergantung kepada dresser tempatan untuk lawatan kampung, berperanan sebagai pusat rawatan asas bagi komuniti Melayu, petani, dan pentadbiran daerah.
Sepanjang 1901–1912, Hospital Kuala Pilah terus menjadi hospital kecil (masih berstatus dispensari) tetapi semakin sibuk, menerima tambahan peruntukan untuk pembesaran fasiliti dan bekalan air bersih. Walaupun peranannya sebagai pusat rawatan pedalaman berkembang, ia masih dikategorikan sebagai dispensari atau hospital kecil. Pada tahun 1913, hospital ini dinaik taraf menjadi hospital daerah rasmi, membawa peningkatan kapasiti, peruntukan kewangan, dan pengiktirafan formal dalam sistem kesihatan Negeri Sembilan. Naik taraf ini menjadikan Kuala Pilah pusat rujukan utama bagi kawasan pedalaman, sambil mengekalkan peranan rawatan pesakit luar dan lawatan ke kampung melalui sistem “mobile clinic.”. Permulaan perkhidmatan hospital rasmi di kawasan itu adalah dengan lawatan berkala pegawai perubatan dari Seremban.
Pada tahun 1913–1914, Hospital Kuala Pilah mencatatkan peningkatan pesakit luar yang ketara, terutamanya di kalangan penduduk Melayu. Pada 1913, seramai 2,600 orang Melayu menerima rawatan, meningkat kepada 2,769 orang pada 1914. Hospital ini bergantung kepada dresser tempatan untuk lawatan ke kampung, menyediakan rawatan asas dan menghubungkan masyarakat luar bandar dengan sistem kesihatan formal. Statistik ini menunjukkan bahawa Hospital Kuala Pilah memainkan peranan penting sebagai pusat rawatan utama bagi kawasan sekitarnya, khususnya bagi penduduk Melayu, walaupun sistem rawatan masih terhad dan bergantung kepada kakitangan tempatan, sementara kadar kematian pesakit dalam negeri pada masa itu tetap tinggi, mencerminkan keterbatasan fasiliti dan sumber perubatan.
Sepanjang 1920-an hingga 1930-an, Hospital Kuala Pilah memainkan peranan penting dalam kawalan malaria, termasuk pengagihan kuinin dan pemantauan kes di estet, selain menyediakan rawatan kecederaan akibat kerja lombong dan ladang.Pada 1922, pengagihan kuinin secara sistematik dimulakan untuk kawalan malaria di estet-estet sekitar Pilah.
Kemudahan wad bersalin dimasukkan pada lewat 1930-an untuk menangani kadar kematian ibu dan bayi yang tinggi di kawasan pedalaman. Perhatian terhadap kesihatan ibu dan bayi turut diberi keutamaan apabila wad bersalin pertama dibuka pada 1937 bagi menangani kadar kematian tinggi di kawasan pedalaman.
Menjelang 1940-an, Hospital Kuala Pilah telah menjadi hospital paling sibuk selepas Seremban, dengan pelbagai wad termasuk untuk Melayu, Cina, India. Kuala Pilah berkembang pesat menjadi hospital pedalaman utama dan berperanan sebagai “ibu hospital daerah” Negeri Sembilan.
Tempoh Pendudukan Jepun (1942–1945) menyaksikan hospital terus beroperasi walaupun bekalan ubat terhad, serta kekurangan kakitangan. Pada era pendudukan Jepun, Hospital Kuala Pilah berfungsi sebagai hospital utama di kawasan pedalaman, dengan wad yang sesak dan sering digunakan oleh tentera Jepun. Selepas perang, pada 1946, hospital dipulihkan dan dijadikan pangkalan utama pasukan perubatan bergerak yang melawat kampung di sekitar Kuala Pilah, Juasseh dan Parit Tinggi.
Pada 1950-an, hospital ini dipulihkan dan diperluas, dengan jumlah katil meningkat bagi menampung pesakit yang semakin ramai. Menjelang kemerdekaan pada 1957, Hospital Kuala Pilah sudah memiliki lebih 30 katil dan perkhidmatan pesakit luar harian.
Sepanjang 1960–1980-an, Hospital Kuala Pilah berkembang pesat sehingga mempunyai lebih 150 katil, menjadikannya hospital rujukan utama bagi kawasan pedalaman Negeri Sembilan sebelum Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban mengambil alih peranan sebagai pusat hospital negeri. Kemudahan hospital terus diperkembangkan dengan penambahan makmal asas dan kemudahan diagnosis pada 1964, diikuti pembukaan unit sinar-X dan wad bersalin baharu pada 1972. Pada 1980-an, klinik pakar lawatan (visiting specialist) untuk perubatan dalaman dan pembedahan am mula diperkenalkan. Pada 1985, hospital mula menawarkan klinik pakar lawatan untuk pembedahan dan perubatan dalaman. Pada 1993, bilik bedah dan unit rawatan rapi sederhana (HDU) dibuka untuk meningkatkan kapasiti rawatan kritikal.1990-an, Hospital Kuala Pilah dikembangkan sebagai hospital daerah penuh dengan pembukaan bilik bedah, unit rawatan rapi (HDU), klinik pakar tetap, fisioterapi dan farmasi moden.
Pada 1990-an, Hospital Kuala Pilah menjadi hospital daerah terbesar selepas Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban (HTJS). Pembinaan hospital baru mengambil masa sekitar empat tahun, bermula dari Disember 1990 hingga Oktober 1994, dengan kos keseluruhan sebanyak RM97.5 juta. Pada tahun 1995, hospital ini mula berfungsi sepenuhnya sebagai hospital baru, menggantikan hospital lama yang telah digunakan selama hampir satu abad. Hospital baru, kini dikenali sebagai Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah, mula beroperasi pada 16 Januari 1995, menggantikan hospital lama yang telah berusia hampir 100 tahun dan hanya mempunyai 232 katil.
Pada 2000-an, ia dinaik taraf dengan kapasiti melebihi 200 katil dan dilengkapi dengan pakar asas. Sepanjang 2010-an, hospital ini berkembang menjadi hospital moden dengan lebih 250 katil, berperanan sebagai pusat rujukan utama bagi kawasan luar bandar.Kemudahan lanjut seperti unit fisioterapi dan klinik pakar pediatrik ditambah pada 2006, Pada tahun 2015, bangunan hospital baharu siap dibina menggantikan blok lama, meningkatkan kapasiti kepada lebih 180 katil. Menjelang 2020-an, kapasiti hospital melebihi 300 katil dan terus menjadi hospital rujukan luar bandar Negeri Sembilan dengan pelbagai jabatan pakar. Dalam tempoh 2020–2022, hospital terlibat secara aktif dalam saringan COVID-19 serta menyokong program vaksinasi komuniti daerah, menunjukkan peranan berterusan hospital dalam menangani cabaran kesihatan moden.
Hari ini, Hospital Kuala Pilah berperanan sebagai pusat rujukan daerah dengan perkhidmatan kecemasan 24 jam, bilik bedah, klinik pakar (ortopedik, pembedahan, obstetrik & ginekologi, perubatan dalaman dan pediatrik), unit dialisis serta perkhidmatan farmasi dan pemulihan. Ia terus menjadi pusat penting yang menyokong Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar dan meliputi kawasan pedalaman timur Negeri Sembilan.Hospital ini menyediakan perkhidmatan pakar, pesakit luar, dan pesakit dalam, serta berfungsi sebagai hospital pengajaran untuk International Medical University (IMU). (Doctor Jobs Today - Global).Hospital ini kini merupakan hospital daerah kedua terbesar di Negeri Sembilan, dengan kapasiti katil sebanyak 314 katil, dan dijangka meningkat kepada 458 katil menjelang tahun 2024.
Lokasi dan Kedudukan
Hospital lama Kuala Pilah yang telah beroperasi hampir satu abad sejak era kolonial akhirnya digantikan dengan Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah pada tahun 1995. Bangunan lama tersebut berkemungkinan besar telah dirobohkan atau diubah suai menjadi bangunan lain, memandangkan usianya yang terlalu uzur serta tidak lagi sesuai menampung keperluan perkhidmatan kesihatan moden. Seperti banyak hospital kolonial lain di Malaysia pada era 1990-an, bangunan lama sama ada dijadikan pejabat kerajaan, stor atau tapak pembangunan baharu. Tiada rekod rasmi penggunaan semasa bangunan hospital lama Kuala Pilah ditemui, yang menguatkan andaian bahawa ia telah dirobohkan atau ditukar fungsi kepada kegunaan lain.
Tapak asal Hospital Lama Kuala Pilah dipercayai terletak di pusat bandar. Klinik Ibu dan Anak dibina di atas bekas lokasi hospital lama memberikan petunjuk kukuh tentang lokasinya. Klinik Ibu dan Anak di Kuala Pilah kini beroperasi sebagai sebahagian daripada Klinik Kesihatan Kuala Pilah, yang terletak di Jalan Macpherson, Kampung Tebat Kering, 72000 Kuala Pilah. Klinik ini menawarkan perkhidmatan antenatal (penjagaan ibu hamil), pesakit luar, dan pelbagai unit kesihatan awam lain. Mengikut sesetengah sumber, ia juga dirujuk sebagai terletak di kawasan Taman Bahagia tetapi lokasi spesifiknya tetap merancang di Jalan Macpherson — dan berada di pusat bandar lama Kuala Pilah. Dr. S. S. Rajanayagam
Dr. S. S. Rajanayagam adalah seorang Penolong Pegawai Perubatan yang berkhidmat di Kuala Pilah pada tahun 1927. Beliau dihormati oleh masyarakat setempat kerana dedikasi dan khidmatnya dalam memastikan kesihatan awam terjaga, khususnya dalam kawasan yang ketika itu mempunyai kemudahan perubatan yang terhad. Kepakaran dan sikap profesionalnya meninggalkan kesan mendalam kepada komuniti, sehingga majlis perpisahan diadakan pada 21 Mac 1927 di Government English School, Kuala Pilah, sebagai tanda penghargaan rakyat terhadap sumbangannya dalam bidang perubatan.
Sarah Winstedt adalah seorang pegawai perubatan wanita dari British yang berkhidmat di Kuala Pilah pada awal abad ke-20. Beliau memainkan peranan penting dalam memperkenalkan perkhidmatan kesihatan moden kepada komuniti tempatan, terutamanya bagi wanita dan kanak-kanak. Sarah Winstedt kerap melakukan lawatan ke rumah penduduk di kawasan luar bandar menggunakan gajah dan basikal, satu pendekatan yang luar biasa pada masa itu, bagi memastikan rawatan sampai ke kawasan terpencil. Usaha beliau bukan sahaja meningkatkan akses kepada perkhidmatan perubatan tetapi juga membina kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap perubatan Barat di tanah jajahan.
Dr. CK merupakan seorang pegawai perubatan yang berkhidmat di Hospital Daerah Kuala Pilah pada tahun 1989. Beliau dikenali khususnya dalam bidang anestesiologi, di mana kepakarannya membantu dalam prosedur pembedahan dan penjagaan pesakit secara keseluruhan. Dedikasi Dr. CK dalam memastikan keselamatan dan keselesaan pesakit semasa rawatan pembedahan menjadikan beliau tokoh perubatan yang dihormati dalam kalangan rakan sekerja dan komuniti tempatan. Sumbangan beliau juga mencerminkan profesionalisme pegawai perubatan di hospital daerah ketika Kuala Pilah berkembang sebagai pusat kesihatan penting di Negeri Sembilan.
